    Methods for Confirming Fetal Gender

    The most certain way to determine the gender of a fetus is through genetic testing during in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, there are restrictions in South Korea and Japan regarding when you can know the gender. In these countries, it's legally prohibited to determine the gender before 32 weeks of pregnancy.

    South Korean Medical Law, Article 20 (Prohibition of Gender Identification of the Fetus)
    1. Medical professionals are not allowed to examine or test pregnant women for the purpose of determining the gender of the fetus, nor assist others in doing so.
    2. Medical professionals must not reveal the gender of the fetus they learn during an examination or test of a pregnant woman conducted before 32 weeks of pregnancy to the pregnant woman, her family, or any other individuals.

    In the United States, Europe, and other regions, you can determine the gender of the fetus using preimplantation genetic screening (PGS). While it can be expensive, if knowing the gender of the fetus is critically important, you have the option of traveling abroad for the test.

     

    Gender Selection Methods

    As mentioned earlier, there are no methods to determine the gender in advance in South Korea. In cases where traveling abroad for testing is not feasible, you need to understand the characteristics of chromosomes and plan accordingly.

     

     

    The determination of the fetus's gender ultimately lies with the male. Eggs carry XX sex chromosomes, and sperm carry XY sex chromosomes. When eggs and sperm meet to form a zygote, the egg contributes only an X chromosome, while the sperm can contribute either an X or a Y chromosome. In other words, if you can understand the characteristics of the X and Y sex chromosomes in sperm, your chances of selectively determining the gender of the fetus increase.

     

    X sex chromosomes are more resistant to acidity, while Y sex chromosomes are more resistant to alkalinity. A woman's vaginal environment is typically acidic except during ovulation, when it becomes more alkaline. Therefore, before ovulation, it's more favorable for X sex chromosomes to survive, and during ovulation, it's more favorable for Y sex chromosomes to survive.

     

    X sex chromosomes have a lifespan of about 2-3 days, while Y sex chromosomes have a lifespan of about 1 day. X sex chromosomes can generally survive longer than Y sex chromosomes.

     

    Taking into account the characteristics of both X and Y sex chromosomes:

     

    Have intercourse two days before ovulation when the vaginal environment is acidic, favoring the survival of X chromosomes.

    On the day of ovulation, when the vaginal environment becomes alkaline, Y chromosomes are favored.

    In conclusion, if you want a male child, have intercourse on the day of ovulation, and if you want a female child, have intercourse just before ovulation.
